Matthew 4:4(ESV) But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
As we enter into our time of fasting and consecration to the Lord this year, I would like to highlight something that is essential during this time. It is very important to the spiritual results we will receive from our spiritual discipline during our time of fasting. That is, “The power of the word of God.” Smith Wigglesworth said it like this, “The Word of God will bring you into a wonderful place of rest in faith.”
As we crucify our flesh through the fasting of food, television, social media, etc. Let’s allow the word of God to nourish, strengthen, and empower us for the journey. I would like to challenge each one of us in the area of meditating on a verse daily. Meditate on it and memorize it as scripture teaches. Psalm 1:2(ESV) “but his delight is in the law[word] of the LORD, and on his law[word] he meditates day and night.”
I believe that the Lord will not only graciously pour out His wisdom, knowledge and understanding to us in this season of fasting, but also reveal Himself in a deeper and more intimate way, even when things seem to be weighing on you. I pray that the words of Jesus in Gethsemane will be echoed in our hearts. “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” – Luke 22:42 (ESV)
May the grace of our Lord Jesus not only sustain us during this journey, but consume and perpetuate us solely to His purpose and plan for our lives. I would also like to encourage us to walk through the 5-day bible reading program for this year. It can be found at www.BibleClassMaterials.com. May the Lord enlighten our understanding and ignite an unquenchable fire within us.
